For the fourth time in program history the Georgian Grizzlies Women's Golf team has been crowned Ontario's best.
Led by incredible three-day performances from Emilie Tyndall and Cory Pond the Grizzlies total score of 464 earned them an eleven-stroke victory over second place Humber. Georgian's second round was the championship's biggest story, as Tyndall and Pond turned a two-stroke disadvantage into a sixteen stroke lead by day's end. The pairs matching 73's provided the Grizzlies with a nearly insurmountable lead heading into Wednesday's title clinching round.
Individually, Emilie Tyndall won a silver medal with a score of +20, marking the second time in three years that a Georgian Woman has finished in Ontario's top two. The freshman has now earned top-two finishes twice in the past three weeks. Cory Pond narrowly missed out on medaling with a total score of +29, just three strokes out of third. Niagara's Lorelle Weaver's captured gold, Humber's Sheila McKeen bronze.
The team will now look to carry the momentum to Nationals in search of the programs third Women's CCAA Championship.
The Men's Team mounted an impressive rally themselves on Wednesday. Heading into the final round fifth and three strokes out of a National berth, Georgian managed a total score of 313 in exceedingly tough conditions. Matt Lemay came up big, shooting a 72 that led the Grizzlies and was among the day's best scores. Jon Collins also came through in the clutch with a 76 to end his tournament on a high note.
Individually, Niagara's Evan Littlefield captured gold, Humber's Scott Benzoni silver and Niagara's Josiah Dixon bronze.
The Bronze medal marks an incredible seventh consecutive year that the Men's program has finished on the OCAA podium.
Georgian is now off to to Fraser Valley, British Columbia for the National Championship set to run from Tuesday, October 13 to Friday, October 16.
