WIND A FACTOR IN FINAL ROUND OF UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

WIND A FACTOR IN FINAL ROUND OF UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The fourth and final round of Canadian University/College Championships took place on Thursday at the Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club in Barrie.

While players were happy to avoid rain which had been a factor in the early rounds of the tournament, wind became a major factor in the final round.

The entire field remaining on both the men's and women's sides played through incredible wind gusts of over 40km/h for nearly the entire day.

Georgian's Matt Lemay (Waterloo) was the lone Grizzlies golfer to make it through the cut following the third round and finished in a tie for 35th place overall.

It was a pair of golfers from the University of British Columbia who took home the individual titles with Evan Holmes finishing as the top male going five-over through the four rounds while Kat Kennedy finished as the top female shooting 14-over at the tournament.

UBC also took home the women's team title while Laval University won the men's team title.

The Grizzlies were one of only two colleges that qualified for the Golf Canada event with the women's team finishing in seventh and the men's team finishing in 13th overall.
